Thirty six boys enrolled in the Lawrence high school vocational agriculture department under William Essick manage forty crop and livestock projects on farms this summer as part of regular school work. Projects include crops such as corn, oats, wheat, alfalfa and melons and livestock totaling ninety seven horses, three baby beeves and a flock of fifty chickens. Turner Guilty In Liquor Possession Case
William Edward Turner, a 20 year old University freshman from Alton Missouri, was found guilty by Justice Richard R. Stevens of possession and transportation of intoxicating liquor. He was fined 100 dollars and sentenced to thirty days in jail on each count, totaling sixty days plus 200 dollars in prior fines, with potential reversal on appeal. Turner was arrested May 8 in the 700 block of Massachusetts Street after a gallon container of alcohol was found under the hood of a rented Chrysler. His attorney J B Wilson awaits decision on appealing both sentences. Witnesses at trial included city officers Calhoun, Price and Hunter, and Harold Schoe from Rent A Ford, the car rental firm.
