Local HyVee IronKids Triathlon kicks off weekend
Junior triathletes completed a sprint format at Clinton State Park as Lawrence athletes eyed a chance to reach the IronKids National Championship in West Des Moines. Three age groups sent 6 to 15 year olds through pools, bikes and runs with top finishers earning spots for September 17. A notable spill by Charlie Newsome of Lawrence showcased grit as he finished despite a bike crash and chain issue.
