Chester Fire Witness Claims Barton Murder In 1920
Kansas City June 12. A sworn statement places Denzel Chester with Miss Florence Barton the night she was slain in October 1920 and claims he fired the shot. Mrs. Bessie Curtis, 28, was held, Chester previously acquitted in May 1921. Chief Zimmer of Kansas City Kansas questioned the statement, saying he distrusted it. Curtis alleged Chester proposed marriage eight years ago and drove with him the night Barton died. She alleged a car party followed Barton and Howard Winter, then Chester shot a woman and returned claiming it was an accident.
