Mixed outlook for world grain crops warns drought and rains
The Joint Agricultural Weather Facility reports conflicting conditions across major grain regions. In the United States rainfall eased soil moisture deficits in the north, southeast, and northeast but flooded fields elsewhere. The first week of June saw excessive rain from Texas to the central East Coast. Corn planting lagged in the Corn Belt with Indiana at 25 percent planted, the lowest for this time of year in three decades. In the Soviet Union European sector, many areas received only light rain.
