Reports from Shanghai say two factions of the Kwangtung provincial army clashed in southern Fukien as Canton rushes reinforcements. Canton officials threaten to execute Kwangsi banknote speculators amid a currency slump while food prices surge and civilians face conscription. Kwangsi forces reach Hangchow as tensions with the national government persist over resistance to Japan.
Douglas county Kansas delegates endure long hours of handshakes and speechmaking in Cleveland as Kansas figures, including Senator Carl Friend and officials, host receptions with London campaign ties, and floor seating. Sheriff John F. Albright of Barber County dies of heart disease in Medicine Lodge at age 62.
Cleveland June 10 Senator Borah Idaho said no decision yet on monopoly and currency planks and that his appearance before the platform subcommittee is unnecessary after Langworthy reported favorable action on his suggestions. The subcommittee and Borah hoped for a full report tonight though final action before the convention remains unlikely.

The socialist program also includes paid vacations collective bargaining and civil service pension restorations as deputies prepare to debate the measures Thursday. They planned a second session tomorrow and gave no details. Meanwhile Douglas County Commissioners reduced the sheriff’s board and keep pay for prisoners from 60 to 50 cents daily, following Attorney General Clarence Beck’s ruling. Authorities expect possible legal challenge as a test case may be filed against the cut.

The state department disclosed that China spent 1,890,102 dollars in May to buy arms and war implements from the United States. Purchases covered military and non military airplanes engines and parts and machine guns or automatic rifles and pistols.
Eugene Worley, Texas legislator, warned Rexford Tugwell he may punch him if the Resettlement administration chief does not remove the dust bowl moving picture from circulation. Worley called the film libelous and said he would seek convention help to suppress it. Tugwell may meet Worley at the Democratic national convention where Worley is a delegate.

The E. H. Harriman gold medal for best safe operation was awarded today to Union Pacific Railroad in New York. It marks the sixth time in 12 years the western line has won the honor, with E. Roland Harriman presenting the award to his brother W. Harriman, Union Pacific chairman, in a family ceremony.
Topeka's Henry Bubb is the target of a campaign at the national Republican gathering to become the next chairman of the Young Republican Committee. Bubb, Kansas member of the national committee, regional director for five midwest/mountain states, and ongoing aide at Washington HQ since March, would succeed J Kenneth Bradley of Connecticut who has resigned. committee to meet Saturday to pick Bradley's successor.
Miss Ethel Ann Jones, 46, assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Kansas, leaped from the Kaw river bridge shortly before 11 this forenoon. Her body had not yet been recovered. She lived with her sister at 1133 Vermont, had been urged to rest recently, and prepared the lab for the summer session before her death. Witnesses saw her jump. a briefcase with her purse and papers was found. The Mayor offered a $25 reward for recovery.
British and Italian representatives discuss an understanding on the Mediterranean situation, with hopes conversations will advance at the League of Nations council and assembly sessions in Geneva. Italy seeks to persuade the league to lift financial and economic sanctions imposed after the Ethiopian conquest.

In Cleveland on June 10 delegates embraced the motto Three Long Years as a chant opposing Roosevelt's White House tenure. Senator Steiner of Oregon and Representative Snell of New York amplified the cry, with the orchestra in a balcony box spelling the phrase in song heard throughout the hall.
A 1500-strong cavalry brigade from Fort Riley with 1500 horses and 100 motor units camps north of Dutton bridge on the way to Fort Leavenworth. The march, to condition animals and build road discipline, started from Richland and will continue to Tonganoxie and Leavenworth with a return swing to Fort Riley by June 22. Gen. L. R. Kramer plans to join at Leavenworth and offer a trophy for the best conditioned horse.
Cleveland reports that congressman Chester C. Burton told Mayor Harold H. Burton the interruptions at the Republican convention were deliberate sabotage. Police deployed 20 detectives and many officers to Public Hall as Sabin of the R N C radio division said wire cutting was clearly planned. Senator Steiner's keynote was disrupted by the new system failure.
