Apple Valley Farm grows from a dirt road to a thriving arts hub
Lawrence broker Joe Stroup bought 60 acres near Perry Lake in 1967 and built Apple Valley Farm. By 1970 a dirt road led to an antique barn and a vaudeville theater now a dance hall and crafts venue. Cider Sundays and apple products funded and expanded seasonal crafts shows and workshops, with theater productions drawing audiences and plans to grow the barn theater further.

Butter production up in April 101 million pounds
Agriculture Department reporting board says butter output rose five percent in April to 101 million pounds, a 14 percent increase from April last year. American style cheese also climbed six percent from March to 153 million pounds but remained 14 percent below April last year.
