U S Senator James B. Pearson told about 450 bankers at the 26th Bank Management Clinic in Kansas that federal banking rules likely will be revised after Senate investigations. He cited tighter controls on money brokers and better agency communications amid recent bank failures and stressed banking as essential to the economy. Clarence W. Tow of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City spoke on the ongoing business upswing and anticipated slower growth with growing manpower and postwar demographics.
The Lawrence Sertoma Club celebrated its 36th inaugural party at the Eldridge Hotel with over 100 members and guests. A three-vehicle collision on U.S. 24 40 about 5 p.m. Tuesday 212 miles east of Lawrence caused an estimated $400 damage with no injuries. Drivers were Hal W. Brock 20 Route 1 Linwood. Crawford P. Medlin 33 Shawnee Mission. Thomas K. Goff 72 Linwood. Goff's eastbound car turned left and was struck in the rear by Brock, which then hit Medlin.
In Hattiesburg Mississippi an FBI agent told a civic club that there is a close working arrangement between the American Nazi party and the Ku Klux Klan. Neal Welch said many Klan members are on the radical lunatic fringe and would take the law into their own hands.
Duane Pope a 22 year old gravitating bank robber and slayings suspect was part of a McPherson College criminology class group that visited the Kansas State Penitentiary death row last January. Sociology instructor Robert Keim recalled Pope as quiet and reflective but not aggressive, contrasting with the crimes he allegedly committed in Nebraska. Pope’s car and a Ruger pistol purchase at McPherson were noted along with a 30-30 rifle found in the vehicle.
Senator Frank Carlson lauds Kansas 4 H Club members as a leavening influence amid mass lawbreaking and juvenile delinquency. He spoke at a Kansas State University luncheon for over 1,200 4 H members leaders and county extension agents during the annual club roundup.
Sen Robert F Kennedy and Jim Whittaker will raft the Salmon River in Idaho for five days starting June 26 meeting in Boise with their families. The trip follows both men’s spring climb of Mt Kennedy named for Kennedy’s assassinated brother John F Kennedy.
An Overland Park youth piloting a light plane made an emergency landing on a four-lane highway about three miles north of town. Walter Bradshaw, a Utah State University student, said he was flying from Olathe to Salina when bad weather forced the landing after circling Manhattan for half an hour. he pulled into a nearby driveway and continued to Fort Riley for summer ROTC camp.

John R. Clingerman, 34, of White Cloud Kansas and Lansing Michigan origins, receives the Distinguished Honor Award for unique actions during the Congo crisis. He evacuated four diplomats, rescued 14 dependents, led six Americans and three Germans to safety in Stanleyville, and recovered vital documents during two days of sniper fire. He argued to join the mission and provided on the ground reporting via radio links.

Family had faced anonymous abuse and unsigned letters amid fears of anti war protests but the service remained orderly with officers inside the Immaculate Conception Church and two blocks around it.
Kansas University track coach Bob Timmons escaped injury in a noon hour one car accident on the Turnpike between Leavenworth and Kansas City. His heavily damaged car halted near the roadway as he headed to Kansas City's Municipal Airport to meet a track prospect. Assistant Monte Johnson went to the airport to collect the prospect and Timmons.
