Gideon Neis prominent Eudora farmer died unexpectedly this morning after hospital admission. Born May 31, 1891 in Eudora he lived there his whole life and belonged to Salem EUB Church. Funeral at 2 a.m. Thursday at Salem EUB Church with Dr H H Vogel Topeka. burial in Eudora Cemetery. Survivors include wife Lottie son Robert daughter Ruby Cunningham two sisters four brothers and five grandchildren.

Bank Leader Carter Dies by Suicide in Carthage
Walter E. Carter, 74, longtime figure in Missouri banking and president of the Bank of Carthage since 1929, killed himself with a shotgun at his Carthage home. His body was found in a bathroom by a servant. Mrs. Carter was volunteering at the Carthage Blood Bank at the time.

Local teachers win summer study awards for Lawrence schools
Eight Lawrence School system teachers received special summer scholarships to study methods for improving teaching. Six will attend Kansas University with NSF and NDEA support. two study at Northwestern and Michigan Universities. The awards were announced at a Board of Education meeting along with new contracts for ten staff. The district also reported 80 students in summer driver education, 16 in typing, and new world and American history, chemistry, bookkeeping and speech courses pending for fall.
