Washington June 9 The house ways and means committee tentatively agreed to raise wine excise taxes to broaden revenue by about 18 million dollars. Rates would rise for wines under 14 percent to 10 cents a gallon and higher content wines to 40 cents, plus sparkling wines to 10 cents a half pint. Also proposed were increases on artificial carbonated wines and cordials to 5 cents a half pint. The panel also moved to lift the liquor tax to 6 dollars a gallon and beer to 7 dollars a barrel, aiming for substantial revenue.

Harry Dick Dies at 79 Former Kansas pharmacist and leader
Harry Dick died at his daughter Mrs. Fritz Meyn home after a year long illness. Born June 8 1863 in Carnegie Pennsylvania he was Lawrence Kansas fourth licensed pharmacist and held the state Number 4 certificate. He served as Kansas Pharmaceutical Association president two terms in the State Legislature and Douglas county clerk from 1896 to 1900. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 30 pm at the Presbyterian church with Elks Lodge graveside rites. He is survived by his daughter two granddaughters and one grandson.
