Jet Planes and Missiles Revisit Postwar Defense
Washington June 8 A senate committee report on the American aircraft industry warns the nation lost lead by underfunding aeronautical research before and during world war II. It cites Nazi jet and guided missile advances and urges hundreds of millions in public funds if private industry cannot cover it. The panel faults NACA and armed forces for inadequate facilities and calls renewed national effort essential to maintain leadership in jet propulsion and guided missiles.
