Fire damages lumber pile on Louisiana Street
A large lumber pile in the 2100 block on Louisiana Street was partially destroyed by fire Sunday. Lawrence firefighters extinguished the blaze but could not determine the fire origin. A navy trainer plane struck the top of a five foot elevator in Salina Raw, killing the pilot's son, a CPR 91, Sunday. The plane tore a wing and fell 200 yards away in a vacant lot between the post office and another building. A bucket brigade put out engine flames.
