Naval units a big help in invasion efforts
In Trondom June 8 UPI reports the first round of a major invasion saw a combined fleet of American and British ships dominate invasion routes across the channel. British Admiral Ramsay said forces were 100 percent successful with low losses, while Read Admiral Kirk and Rear Admiral Devos directed actions from U S cruisers. Allied ships pounded German fortifications as 600 vessels and many landing craft carried troops and equipment to shore, with naval casualties described as very light.
