Relief Workers Strike in Lyon County Funds Held Up
Topeka June 8 Relief workers in Lyon County faced a dispute over arbitration or prolonged strike while federal funds were held up. John G Statz executive secretary of the Kansas Emergency Relief committee ordered funds withdrawn after learning some workers had struck and others were persuaded to join. Workers earned 80 cents an hour and sought 40 cent increases. Statz cited evidence of a common labor rate but found it insufficient to justify continued relief disbursement.
