San Salvador the capital of El Salvador with a population over 60,000 has reportedly been entirely destroyed by quake and fire. Dispatches from San Miguel say other towns including Quezaltipeque Nejapa Suchichoto and Armeno were wiped out and communication with Tegucigalpa is broken. Seismographs record strong shocks with volcanic activity and ash showers. no confirmed deaths yet. An American minister noted continuing volcanic eruptions and fire in the ruins.
