Proxmire Opposes Glen Elder Dam in Kansas
Washington AP Senator William Proxmire opposes the Glen Elder Dam and Irrigation Project, saying it would raise farm surplus costs. He criticizes the Kennedy administration for backing the big new water project amid farm surplus limits and questions the project’s alignment with national resource policy. He notes the plan would irrigate 13 000 acres for grain sorghums valued at over 1 million annually and warns against misusing scarce tax dollars to boost feed grain production.
