K-State study tracks tallgrass prairie burns across regions
Kansas State University geography doctoral student Rhett Mohler is developing a method to map and date tallgrass prairie burns in Kansas and Oklahoma using satellite data from Thematic Mapper and MODIS plus ground sensors. The project aims to model smoke plumes and assess air quality impacts in urban areas, building ties among researchers, extension personnel, and ranchers with NSF support.
