Cancer rate changes by cancer type 1992 to 1998
A new report shows overall cancer incidence declined in the 1990s. It lists percent-per-year rate changes for selected cancers from 1992 through 1998, highlighting breast cancer with a 1.2 to 5.1 percent range for women.
Declining cancer rates shown in national study
National study from the National Cancer Institute and partners notes overall cancer deaths fell while incidence rose for women. Breast cancer jumped about 40 percent since 1973, driven by screening in women 50 to 74. Lung cancer deaths among women rose slightly even as new cases fell. Colon-rectum cancer declined across groups, with white men showing the sharpest death-rate drop. Melanoma deaths rose among white men, while stable among white women.
