Church to demolish historic parsonage despite preservationists

The Central United Methodist Church plans to demolish the 1900s Craftsman parsonage at 1508 Vermont St after voting to proceed. Officials say mold, radon, and wiring issues, plus funds constraints, prevent maintenance or a potential transfer to Family Promise for homeless families. Preservationists oppose the decision, noting the home’s poor condition does not justify demolition.
