John Garcia 66 of Topeka died June 3 2015 at Stormont Vail Hospital after a full life. He served in the US Army during Vietnam era and worked 25 years at Hallmark Cards and 20 years with corrections. He married Rosalie Castardo in 1968. Survived by wife, children Stacey Lucy Santos Garcia Jamie Garcia and siblings and five grandchildren. Funeral services at Brennan Mathena Topeka. James Clarence Prentice 85 of Lawrence Kansas died June 3 2015 at home. He served 25 years as a captain with the Lawrence Fire Department and worked as a glazier for Kennedy Glass. A US Air Force veteran of the Korean War he was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God. He married Phyllis Cress in 1953 and she survives at home along with two daughters five grandchildren 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Burial at Highland Cemetery Iola Kansas followed the funeral at Calvary Temple Assembly of God with visitation at church prior to the service. Contributions may be made to Calvary Temple Assembly of God or the American Heart Association.
City officials report signs of distressed elms silver maples and ash trees citywide with about 80 trees in Oak Hill and Memorial Park Cemetery in distress.
