A flurry of guests arrive in Lawrence for commencements reunions and visits. Mr and Mrs Fred Six arrive from Stockholm via New York and Washington DC staying at 1000 Emery Rd. Others include Grace L Rogers in town for niece Sandy Hodges graduation, plus extended families from Joplin Bradenton and Ottawa and guests from Salt Lake City and Lawrence alumni at KU events.
Leavenworth's Kansas Centennial observance includes a historic homes tour next Sunday from 12 30 to 5 30 p m featuring five homes and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Homes include D R Anthony MI Col and Mrs O E Schanze John Brock Taylor Ormond Leavel Jr and Miss Rose T McKee plus the McKee home since 1858. Proceeds fund a Leavenworth museum. Mrs Taylor chairs the tour.
Mrs. Charles Oldfather was elected president at the Mortar Board alumnae luncheon tied to EU Commencement activities. Fifty two members attended as officers were named including Mrs. Crosier vice president and Miss Irma B. Spangler treasurer with 1961 president James McClure presiding.
TOPEKA AP Washburn University's new science building was dedicated Sunday as Stoffer Science Hall in honor of the late Dr Bryan S Stoffer former president of the university Dr Orville Clark of Topeka member of the university Board of Regents and chairman of the building and grounds committee presided.
Brownie and Intermediate Girl Scouts of Neighborhood IV prepare for a 1961 Day Camp June 12 to 16 at Hidden Valley, with 130 campers from Centennial Cordley and Schwegler schools. Activities include cooking crafts hiking and nature studies under camp director Mrs C E Van Hoesen. Buses run from Cordley Schwegler and Centennial and a campfire is planned for June 14 with parents invited.
Lawrence Dance Studio named Jodie Pattee and Barbara Allen as scholarship recipients. Director Karen McKinsey announced honorable awards for Glenda Keltcher and Regan Johnston.
