Lawrence KMBC-TV runs a questionnaire in the JournalWorld asking viewers about preferred shows and evening news hours with a June 10 deadline. The station now airs adventure and mystery programs later at night, replacing older full length movies.
The 20th Midwestern Music and Art Camp at Kansas University runs June 16 to July 28 with 369 students from at least half of the 48 states. It offers four divisions music, art, ballet and theater under directors Russell L. Wiley Marjorie Whitey Robert E. Bell Lewin Goff and Virgil Godfrey.
Washington Senator McClellan from Arkansas says he will push a corrective constitutional amendment if courts uphold witnesses frivolously invoking the Fifth Amendment. He also doubts the Senate will hesitate to pursue contempt of Congress charges against Dave Beck Jr., son of the Teamsters president, as a test case to define when a witness crosses the line in invoking self incrimination protection.
Swollen Lake Texoma sent torrents down the Red River threatening floods in Texas Oklahoma and Arkansas. Texoma at the Texas Oklahoma border near Denison expected to crest around 643.5 to 644 feet as engineers released 95 000 cubic feet per second and inflow reached 105 6 million. Three-inch rains hit Oklahoma tributaries while delays at Grapevine Lake and Grand Fort Gibson lakes kept river bottoms alert.
A 1926 KU graduate and Kerr-McGee Oil Industries president, A McGee, received an honorary doctor of law from Oklahoma City University. He delivered the commencement address and is noted as a nationally influential businessman and civic leader. He began as a petroleum geologist in 1927 with Phillips Petroleum and rose to head a major independent firm. He holds positions in about 20 professional bodies and serves in multiple firms. The Markets at a Glance section reports varied movements in tobacco, bonds, crops, hogs, cattle, and commodities with brief price ranges and notable activity in Wall Street trading and a card of thanks.
Douglas County Farm Bureau board outlines a July 21 picnic at the 4H Fairgrounds for members families and friends. Committee members include Delbert Brink Jesse Sutton and Hubert Hoskinson. Cash prizes totaling 150 for 4-H projects and a note driving demonstration by the Kansas Farm Bureau safety department are planned. The board also finalizes plans for the county dairy princess contest on June 15 at the 4-H Fairgrounds with cash prizes and expense coverage for the district contest.
San Antonio reports a court martial where Airman Robert Dinsenbacher of Astoria New York was fined and reduced one grade for two months for mistreatment of a bank trainee. The incident involved a drill instructor named Roberta cited in the proceedings.

Mrs Patricia Knupp returns home in Newton after nearly two years away for polio treatment in Honolulu. She traveled from Omaha by military plane and ambulance to reunite with her husband and three daughters Kathy Margaret and Allka 22 months. Dr and Mrs H M Glover and Mrs Dick Glover welcomed her in the family home after a Dec 21 1955 flight.
A local ager Bob Kipp moves to form a benefit district for a proposed parking lot northwest of 10th and N. H. Streets. After approval, backers get two months to gather signatures from property owners representing half the area. Eugene Smallberg notes uncertainty on owner cooperation.

The State Accident Records Section reports traffic fatalities in the last 21 hours with a year to date tally 204 for 1987 and 163 for the same period in 1955. The Topeka update notes ongoing counts.
Lawrence division KP&L line crew viewed a resuscitation equipment demonstration at the sub station on 6th and Vt Streets. Demonstrators John Kagberger and James Prentice shown a device donated by Beta Sigma Phi to the Fire Department for drowning, electrocution, and heart attack cases. About 40 KP&L employees attended. Tom Baker is safety director, Jerry McGee chairs the safety committee with Willard Dixon and John Adams assisting.
The city program runs two trips to area South Park and C C Carl League for teens while Recreation League for ages 11 and 12 starts Monday, with Jayhawk League for 9 to 10 also at South Park. Creative dramatics, weekly community drama nights, and registration on the playground accompany a calendar of carnival events, bicycle festival, and picnic day.

Enrollment for KU summer session begins Friday for undergraduates while new students meet Thursday for orientation at 8 a.m. in Memorial Union. Graduates may enroll Thursday in Strong Hall to complete the process, saving a trip to Memorial Union Ballroom. About 2,500 are expected to enroll this summer, up from 2,191 last year.
In Huntington New York a 2 year old boy was critically hurt when he fell on a rotary mower blade after his sister Christine White 15 was mowing. Lawrence White remained in critical condition at Huntington Hospital as doctors fought to save him.
