Convicts Give Up After Resistance in Tennessee Prison
Three long term prisoners surrendered to authorities after seven hours in the east wing of the state penitentiary in Nashville Tennessee. The trio Carl Pentecost Lonnie Taylor and J Raines overpowered two guards to seize pistols and held guard W C Smith captive through the night. Deputy Warden Ed Connors hesitated to fire to avoid wounding Smith. The men tossed weapons out of a cell and surrendered after a trusty delivered a note requesting that authorities come for their guns. Taylor limped as he walked, suspected wounded in earlier clashes.
