Mergers Discussed by Two Largest Farm Co-ops

Farmland Industries of Kansas City and Far-Mar-Co of Hutchinson Kansas announce talks on a potential merger. The deal would combine Farmland supply facilities with Far-Mar-Co grain marketing to offer a full range of farm services. Both boards approved studying feasibility on an orderly but rapid basis.

Martha Mitchell laid to rest with wreath declaring she was right

Kissinger to Meet Vorster in West Germany on Rhodesia Talk

Secretary of State Henry Kissinger will meet South African Prime Minister John Vorster in West Germany on June 23 and 24 to discuss Rhodesia, apartheid, and Namibia. A separate report says Terry L. McGreevy was robbed of about 20 to 30 dollars after an early evening assault in the 700 block of Massachusetts. he was left unconscious but later recovered.

Agency learns salesman is OK

The Consumer Affairs Association announced that Jim W. Hues, a salesman for Executive Fund Life Insurance, is properly registered and legitimate after doubts arose from a citizen complaint about cash payments for premiums. He admitted requesting cash and agreed to issue receipts in the future to clear suspicions. The agency verified registrations with the Kansas Commissioner of Insurance.

Prison director Kenneth Oliver named to Lansing post

Kenneth Oliver, 46, director of the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory at Hutchinson since 1973, is appointed director of the Kansas Penitentiary at Lansing. He replaces Raymond Maynard, who resigned. Oliver will assume the new duties June 18. Gary Rays will serve as acting director at Hutchinson.

Prairie Chautauqua seeks exhibitors in July festival

Organizers of the Prairie Chautauqua at South Park July 2 to 4 seek local exhibitors. The three day event features music theater crafts and historical displays tied to bicentennial celebration. Entries due June 14. Exhibits in arts and crafts foods and historical displays may be sold.

Kansas Democrats will finish selecting seven delegates six alternates five national committee members and seven electors at a 1 p.m. session Saturday in Topeka. The final picks follow district conventions and aim for political balance with Carter likely to gain several more delegates.

City Commissioner fielded dog bite and decay concerns at town meeting

City commissioner Marnie Argersinger heard from residents on dog bites and a decaying neighborhood in a weekly public session. A constituent demanded quicker dog impoundment while another asked for zoning reforms to protect Pinckney. she pledged a study on planning. Two youths questioned her income and lifestyle during the session.

City Council, Planning Panel Discuss Zoning Code Start

Lecompton officials and county planning director Richard McClanathan met to outline duties for adopting a zoning code. The city received 6780 from county development funds for a land use plan and McClanathan will provide services. The next meeting is set for July 22.
