Secretary Woodring Plans to Live in Old Stanton Home
The 82 year old Stanton house three miles east of Lecompton once owned by Stanton and later by Secretary of War Harry H. Woodring is described as a noted Kansas residence. It sits on a bluff above the Kaw river with views toward Topeka and Mt. Oread. The 19 room, two story stone building shows heavy decay with many walnut doors gone and interior plaster crumbling. Woodring plans to retire from the cabinet next January and may restore the home after attending a state convention in Salina.
