Castro Given Deadline on Tractors Trade Proposal
Fidel Castro has until Wednesday to respond to Tractors for Freedom about exchanging 1,200 Cuban prisoners for 500 tractors. The group led by Eleanor Roosevelt and Milton Eisenhower urged Castro to confirm the May 17 offer, warning a failure to respond would be seen as a retraction. The plan envisions 450 general-purpose and 50 heavy tractors with cargo, and release of 100 prisoners per 100 tractors.
