Kansas City Missouri June 2 AP H F Steen general manager of United States Airways announced Earl B Wadsworth superintendent of the United States air mail service will inaugurate the direct Kansas City to Denver mail service Friday. The new route cuts the thirteen hour mail run by seven hours bypassing Omaha Cheyenne and Pueblo with a single intermediate stop at Salina and a hoped refueling stop at Goodland. Prisoner Johnson Returns and Receives Six Month Sentence
Orville L. Johnson known as Snake, who escaped from a road gang near Eudora on May 26, surrendered to the county jail and was sentenced by Judge Hugh Means to six months in the county jail under Kansas law governing county prisoners. He had been fined $1,000 for vagrancy and destruction of property for throwing a brick through Crown Drug Company windows, and had been paroled from a liquor sentence. Johnson said he served five months, left the road gang May 26 for a vacation, and was captured near the jail by Sheriff Dunkley and Deputy Vogler. He pleaded guilty to escaping from the road gang and will begin the six-month term after completing his current sentence, with about eight months remaining.
