City Sends Site for New Bridge to County

City commissioners recommended to the County Commission that the second Lawrence bridge be built as an extension of Tennessee Street tying to 2nd Street in North Lawrence. The four lane, expandable bridge would connect with north Lawrence and avoid the 2nd and Locust underpass. The Salina firm Bucher and Willis proposed this location based on traffic studies. Vermont Street was the alternative. The city will finance access while the county builds the bridge, with cost estimated at 2.5 to 3 million dollars. The current bridge at 6th and Mass is in good condition and will serve for years.
