Lawrence News Briefs Include Rain, Trip to Chicago, and Wage Codes

At five this morning Walter Varnum Jr began an overland trip to the Century of Progress exposition in Chicago as rain began simultaneously. The Kansas State Board of Pharmacy will meet at the University for certificates examinations tomorrow and Wednesday. Rain aided corn, pastures, and other crops around Lawrence, which badly needed it. Ottawa reports suggested Lawrence merchants fired and rehired workers at lower wages last night, but no such action occurred and authorities prohibit such moves under the new hour and wage code.
