City commissioners consider the largest property tax rate increase in at least 50 years to fund sidewalk work and employee raises. A Journal World review shows nearly 65 percent of the new revenue would bolster the citys savings account projected to reach about 27 million by end of 2025.
Activists civic groups and two Lawrence parents who lost children to gun violence joined residents for a DOJ facilitated workshop with Lawrence police. The half day session was the first of two in the Strengthening Police and Community Partnerships Program aimed at identifying community strengths and barriers to trust. DeBarre Johnson urged open honest dialogue and listening to reach solutions. LAWRENCE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER Yolanda Franklin attended the event as part of the DOJ Lawrence partnership program.
