Kansas wildlife officials say about 50 to 60 antelope remain in the Flint Hills restoration area near Matfield Green, with no plans to stock more. Coyotes keep the herd from growing beyond current levels despite the prior 350 animals released between 1979 and 1991.

Fire prompts evacuation of Lawrence church
About 100 people were evacuated from Plymout h Congregational Church in downtown Lawrence after an electrical short ignited wiring and ceiling materials in a classroom area. Fire crews arrived around 9:35 a.m. and a congregant named Mark Gleason quickly used a portable extinguisher to suppress the blaze before it spread.
