Bert Nash DBT program hit by mass nurse therapist resignations
Seven specialized DBT therapists at Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center resigned with 30 days notice on Monday July 16. CEO Patrick Schmitz said the resignations involve more than half of the licensed therapists in the program and the center is arranging client transfers or new placements to maintain care. Four therapists will stay, including one hired last week.

Witnesses tie defendant to bar fight before fatal shooting
Testimony Wednesday identified Danny Queen as the instigator of a disturbance outside D-Dubs Bar and Grill in Eudora that culminated in a deadly shooting. Body cam video from officer Brandon Sharp showed the chaotic scene while Queen, 37, faces first degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder for the June 23, 2017 incident.

Former post office to become dog resort in Lawrence
Plans filed with City Hall aim to convert the former Lawrence post office at 1519 W. 23rd St into Woof's Play Stay Grooming, a dog day care and resort. The building, vacant since Half-Price Books left, would undergo significant renovations as the company moves in after the post office closed in the mid-1990s and later housed other tenants.
