U N to airlift food to drought hit Somalia

The United Nations will begin airlifting emergency rations this week to drought ravaged Somalia, halted for over two years by al Shabab. The effort seeks to reach at least 175000 of about 22 million Somalis in need as thousands trek to Kenya and Ethiopia for aid. Fourteen WFP workers have been killed in Somalia since 2008.

Lowe's Plan Returns for Northwest Lawrence Store

Lowe's has filed new plans to build a 145,551 square foot store at Sixth Street and Congressional Drive in northwest Lawrence, near Wal Mart. The project requires rezoning from apartment to commercial retail. Two smaller shops totaling 7,500 square feet and five acres set aside for future apartments are included. Planning commissioners meet in September with city votes possible in October.
