Plan would allow homeless shelter to relocate
Douglas County leaders plan to acquire 34 acres east of the Douglas County Jail to house a consolidated Public Works complex and relocate the Lawrence Community Shelter. County Administrator Craig Weinaug and commissioners support the plan, which would make the county the majority landowner under Covenant rules that previously barred a shelter on the site. The Covenant board may resign as commissioners appoint replacements.
