The case of Rie Brown tried yesterday drew most of Lone Star's neighbors as Alex Brown and Nick Tommy clashed in court. Brown, reportedly the only one arrested, was released on his own recognizance. The matter was adjourned to allow tempers to cool and prevent further disturbance.
The Douglas County Horticultural Society met July 21 at BF Smiths home with President Macomb presiding. Members urged adding Samuel Walker and Forest Savage to the list of early horticulturists. Talks covered propagation by cuttings, peach planting prices, and orchard history from 1855 plus remarks by State Horticultural Society Secretary W. H. Barnes on apples, grapes, and cemetery land practices.

Kansas City July 24 A general reduction of port wheat rates from Kansas City and river points to Chicago St Louis Memphis and the Gulf was announced. The Chicago & Alton set 8 cents per bushel to Chicago and others followed. The new rate takes effect July 28 and parity with flour rates is sought. The move follows a board of trade push for equalized rates on port wheat and flour.
The board of reviews, the Marshal Field estate, and the city counsel resolved that the Field estate must pay 180000 in taxes this year including back taxes. Executors will owe county 240100, exceeding last year’s personal property tax. The Willard WOTO meeting will be held July 27 at 2:30 pm in the Baptist church parlors for officer elections and reports.

Charles H Everly teller of the St Louis Adolon Trust Co., missing a week and charged with embezzling 95 100, was located in Denver and police told to arrest him at night. Frank Armstrong, a prominent young farmer from 54 miles southwest of town, was operated on at 11 oclock this morning by Dr D T Philips at Simmona hospital for appendicitis after a period of illness. He was transported to town by Robertsop Ambulance.
The State journal accuses Rev Chase Parham formerly of this city of claiming to found the Holy Rollers. He is said to have left the ministry after a career of religious zeal and sensationalism. He promoted a “gift of tongue” as unknown language for a week before it faded. Parham has been living by sensationalism, hopping from one thing to another for attention.
