Power Setup Is Killed by House
A 40 million dollar experimental atomic power program sponsored by Democrats was defeated by Republican votes in the House. It would have launched the Atomic Energy Commission on a long range plan to build reactors for government installations to prove commercial atom power feasibility. Democrats said the government must bear costs and risks to lead in science, while Republicans argued the AEC was already advancing commercial power and the United States led the world in atomic progress.
