Kansas Legislature skewed older with low pay and few young reps
A Journal-World analysis shows Kansas lawmakers are mostly aged, with 165 members and only 12 under 40. The median age is 60.4, oldest at 75, and pay is low at 88.66 per day in session plus 142 expense allowance and 54 cents per mile, limiting who can serve. Local experts say pay and incentives deter younger adults from entering or staying in legislative roles.
