Officer in fatal Lawrence crash investigated for alcohol

The Sun day morning wreck in the 1600 block of North 1550 Road involved two riders and an off duty Lawrence police officer who survived. Jesse del Campo, 56, of Lawrence, died after being flown to KU hospital. Officer Robert Heafey, 51, was hospitalized then released. Alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash per the Douglas County Sheriff's Office report.

Lawrence Arts Center Chief Executive resigns

Kimberly Williams will resign as CEO of the Lawrence Arts Center effective July 31 after less than a year in the role. The board will appoint an interim leader in August and begin a national search in January following a strategic planning process. Williams, formerly with the Solar Fuels Institute in Chicago and GE Capital, described the departure as mutual.
