Local recall may affect few Lawrence buses
Navistar International Corp recalls at least 24000 school buses for fuel system leaks that could ignite in a crash. Local contractor Mayflower Contract Services in Lawrence reports only five International buses in its 61-bus fleet, with one already rerouted earlier. Federal crash test last month revealed a fuel tank cage could puncture the tank and leak fuel.

Carryover to Trim Douglas County Budget Mill Levy
Douglas County Administrator Craig Weinang proposed carrying over 100000 from this year's juvenile detention facility budget to 1993 to help cut a projected mill levy increase. The plan would trim about one third of a mill from the 3.718 mill rise, with a target levy of 30.832 mills down from 27.114. Commissioners urged finding other carryover funds and explored using major maintenance reserves, but no action was taken.

Fresh Beer Is Best Not Aged Or Stale
Beer spoils quickly after bottling or kegging while large brewers pull products after about 34 months. Small brewers and imports lack strict controls, keeping beer within tiny markets or ages months before reaching retailers. By the time you taste it, the beer may bear little resemblance to the original and would likely be considered spoiled.
