Lawrence May Revisit Middle School Plan After Two High Schools
Editorial notes renewed voter interest in moving ninth graders to high schools and creating middle schools for seventh and eighth graders, with potential sixth graders, to align Lawrence with four year high school standards. Board discussions and district flexibility since 1990 are outlined, arguing changes could benefit students without added costs.

The letter to the editor raises two issues from Journal-World coverage. It condemns charging youths as adults for crimes, urging age-appropriate handling, and compares CIA oversight to historic abuses, arguing democratic control by the people must persist. It reiterates concern over executive secrecy and democratic accountability.

Old Hometown Growling Pains Across Two Districts
In 1984 Baldwin and Tonganoxie districts planned major building projects. Tonganoxie scheduled a Sept 4 bond election for 3.37 million to build a new middle school and expand the high school. Baldwin eyed a 500000 elementary addition from accumulated funds. Douglas County Chair Beverly Bradley announced a new county role in Topeka and a decision not to seek another term. 1909 notes mention Interior official Richard pains pecten ary visiting Haskell Institute, Ed Reynolds as Lawrence’s second child dead, Gov Stubbs seeking insurance experts, and a private drive to the governor’s home described as likely the state’s finest.
