Six slayings in nearby Tennessee and Alabama are linked as authorities question a Huntsville man, Jacob Shaffer, found on a Fayetteville porch. US F-15E crashes in Afghanistan killing two crew
An Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle crashed in central Afghanistan early Saturday, killing the two crew members. A separate incident in Zabul province saw an explosive-laden vehicle driven by a gunman blow up beside an Afghan army convoy, killing three soldiers and wounding three. The crash not due to hostile fire, a board will determine cause. Names of the crew not released. The deaths push July NATO fatalities to 50.

Tortoise Reunited With Circus After Brief Road Escape
A 114 pound male tortoise named Berta, who left the Zerbini Family Circus in Madison on July 7 and roamed two miles, was recovered on a golf course and is expected to return to the circus shortly. Owner Alain Zerbini says Berta has been part of the family for 10 years.
