Indonesian hotels hit by dual hotel bombings expose security gaps
Two days earlier attackers smuggled explosives into JW Marriott room 1808 and set bombs off at the Marriott and Ritz Carlton in Jakarta. The blasts killed at least eight and wounded more than 50, shattering a years‑long lull in terrorism in Indonesia and highlighting vulnerabilities in five star hotel security amid Western guest presence. American and other Western executives were among the injured and casualties. Police linked the attack to Jemaah Islamiyah with past Indonesian terrorist cases cited and authorities vowing arrests. President Yudhoyono condemned the attack, and President Obama pledged cooperation in countering extremism.
