Franklin County Fair and Rodeo Keeps Oldest-Kansas Claim
The Franklin County Fair and Rodeo begins in Ottawa with roots tracing to 1866. Debo rah Barker notes the Agricultural Society organized in January 1866 and the first fair held September 20-21 that year, making it Kansas's oldest continuous fair barring floods in 1951 and grasshoppers in 1874. The event runs four days at the Franklin County Fairgrounds with 4-H exhibits, a carnival, barbecue supper and demolition derby drawing about 12 000 to 15 000 attendees.
