Twenty Acre Tract Proves Intensive Farming earns Yield Record
The Lawrence area twenty acre tract owned by W A Pine near Lawrence produced forty tons of shelled peas sold to Kaw Valley Canning at two cents a pound. After peas were harvested, the field was rotated to corn, knee high and developing. Pine's four sons Clarence Clifford Roscoe and Wilbur assisted in planting and caring for crops, with pea vines enriching soil. The article also notes nitrogen fixation by pea vines and advocates crop rotation to improve land for corn and wheat, supporting increased national food supply. Also included is an ad-like piece for Doan's Kidney Pills citing Mrs A E Lowry of 723 Arkansas St Lawrence praising lasting kidney relief. A brief note mentions Denver newspaper men joining a tour for Good Lunch Co advertising, with Topeka last night and plans through Manhattan Salina and Dodge City.
