World's Largest Community Workout draw draws 1000 in 105 degree heat
About 1,000 participants of all ages gathered at Kansas University's Shenk Sports Complex for the second World's Largest Community Workout led by Don Gardner atop a fire truck. The event promoted LiveWell Lawrence efforts to boost physical activity and nutrition as organizers noted heat reduced turnout from last year's 2,700. Participants Reuters included Lawrence resident Pat Ransone with grandsons Preston and Porter Bruce, who enjoyed running. Domestic guest Pip Taylor praised community camaraderie and the event's focus on moving together rather than intensity.
