Fire Near Tucson Contained Aid From Rain Shortens Fight

Rain fell on parts of a mountain wildfire in the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson helping crews. The 84,750 acre blaze, which destroyed over 300 homes and cabins, was 80 percent contained by Saturday and expected to be fully contained by Tuesday evening per fire information officer Dick Fleishman.

Grandmother charged in infant poisoning case in Pennsylvania

Merry Long, 43, allegedly poured about two cups of salt into a can of powdered formula, angered at her son and his girlfriend. The infant Megan Long died from brain swelling due to excess sodium after the mother fed the tainted formula. Long fled after confessing and has not been found.

Baltimore Teen Sentenced 20 Years in Fatal Bar Stomping

Daniel Ennis, 18, received a 20 year prison term after pleading guilty to second degree murder in the beating death of Gerald Joseph Holle, a 55 year old homeless man under a Baltimore bridge. Prosecutors say the attack aimed to purge homeless men from the neighborhood.

Minnesota minister freed in Laos calls for investigation

The Rev Naw Karl Mua, a Lutheran minister from St Paul, was released from a Laotian prison after international pressure. He thanked supporters and urged an investigation into alleged human rights abuses in Laos. Mua and two European journalists, who had been sentenced to 15 years in the death of a Laotian village guard, were freed following diplomatic efforts. Vincent, a French cameraman, also returned home.
