Dole Institute event recalls Lawrence during war time

Claudine Lingelbach recalls Pearl Harbor and the wartime upheaval at KU and in Lawrence as the Dole Institute of Politics prepares a four day dedication celebration. Thousands of World War II veterans, KU alumni, and students will share memories of how the war reshaped the city and campus. Lingelbach, a 1940 admissions student, notes the shift as many fellows enlisted or were drafted.

Critics doubt Iraq linked to 9 11

Lawrence set to revisit living wage proposal at City Hall

Lawrence watchers await a hearing next month as the City Commission, newly elected in April, returns to the living wage debate. Proponents argue a wage floor for abated companies signals civic commitment, while opponents led by the Kansas Chamber warn of reduced jobs. The measure would require workers at firms receiving tax breaks to earn at least 130 percent of the poverty level, about $9.53 per hour for a family of three.
