Hackers compromise USA Today site with phony articles
Hackers gained outside access to USA Today’s Web servers and posted fake stories lampooning newsmakers and religions and claiming an Israel attack. The bogus pages were online about 15 minutes before being taken down after 10 p.m. and the site went offline for about three hours to upgrade security. A spokesman said the breach originated from outside the fire walls. Meanwhile a Red Lobster patron died after contracting salmonella poisoning, with 34 additional confirmed salmonella cases reported by the health department and tests pending for other cases.
