Densmore Bank Closed by Bank Board Action
Topeka July 11 The Farmers' State bank at Densmore was closed today by order of its board of directors. The bank held deposits of 560,000 and loans of 61,000 and was a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The capital included 10,000 in common stock and 10,000 in preferred stock held by the federal reconstruction corporation. Bank Commissioner Roy A. Haines said the loan should pay out in full. Two large stockholders died recently and an assessment against stockholders could not be paid by their estates, leading to the closure. This was Kansas' first bank failure since May 1935.
