Douglas County budget critique questions rapid tax hikes
The Douglas County 2018 budget proposes a 1.91 mill tax rise adding about $38 yearly to a $175,000 home to fund roughly $2 million for mental health services. Debate centers on whether the county is trying to do too much at once, with commissioners split on funding a multiagency crisis response, detox programs, a behavioral health unit, and psychiatrist hires. The piece argues patience is prudent and supports funding LMH center and psychiatrists while warning against overreach that could jeopardize future support.
