Kansas National Education Association releases a slate of 56 Democratic and 42 Republican candidates pledged to support public schools. Candidates were chosen from teacher questionnaires and interviews in their districts as education funding remains uncertain.
A Kansas Court of Appeals panel ruled that a law enforcement officer who stopped a vehicle in Lawrence violated the driver’s right to be free from unreasonable seizure. The 2 1 decision upheld a lower court ruling that evidence of intoxication found after the stop should be suppressed. The March 2011 incident involved Derek Mueller, followed by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper, who turned into a private driveway and switched off the car lights and engine.
